Now that the market is cooling off, it's even more important to maximize your profits when it comes to the sale of your home. This is why more and more people are looking towards becoming an FSBO seller. This way, they have full control over the sale of their home, and they get to save the 6% commission off of their sale price. But not everyone can go ahead and sell their own homes themselves. When it comes time to sell your home, you all of a sudden become a sales person, a marketer, and even a lawyer. Can you pull this off? Here are some traits you need to have in order to have a knack for selling your own home.
The first thing you need to think about is if you actually have the time to sell your home. It's not a full time job, but it does tend to usurp a lot of time in fielding phone calls, responding, placing ads, following up on offers, getting the proper forms together, etc. If you can spare the time it will take for a proper sale, then this might not bother you much. But it's something to take into consideration. Do you have a strong back? Not physically, even though it's great if you do. But can you shoulder the burden of having patience when selling your home, knowing that you might not sell for months? Can you deal with rude people making low offers or insulting your home? You'll run into them, for sure. Or how about dealing with other people's agents? Or how about the burden of paperwork that you have to file and look over and review before, during and after the home sale? Will you be able to handle all of that with a smile and a handshake? Now, these shouldn't deter you from selling your own home if you answered no to one or more of these. It's just to show you some of what to expect when it comes to the entire home sale process. The fact of the matter is most people can sell their own home with a little bit of effort. Just make sure you keep all of this in mind when it comes time to get it done. |
